September/October 2010

To the Voters of Cecil County regarding the endorsement of the Circuit Court Judge by the Maryland State Bar Association:

The Governor’s appointment is only temporary (for the time between the retired judge’s stepping down and the next general election). ALL candidates, including the Governor’s appointee, then run for election by the people. The Governor’s appointment is a comment on the qualifications of a very limited number of attorneys who sought the temporary appointment, and whose names were forwarded to his office by a small committee. This appointment is not a comment on the qualifications of attorneys who choose to run for election, but do not seek the temporary appointment by the Governor.

Just because a candidate is appointed by the Governor does not mean he or she is more qualified than those candidates who chose not to seek the temporary appointment by the Governor.

I did not seek the temporary appointment because I believe in the democratic ideals this country and state were founded upon, including the electoral process. I believe that the people’s voice should be heard, that the residents of Cecil County should determine their own future, and that the people know best who should be their Circuit Court Judge for Cecil County.

A Democracy is dependent upon the participation of the majority of its people. If the majority of its people do not participate in the government, there is no democracy. At the very least, people need to vote. It needs to be an informed vote. A judicial post is a non-partisan position and the names of all judicial candidates will be on both the Democratic and Republican ballots. Take the time and vote in the primary on September 14, 2010 for the candidate you believe is the best.

Respectfully,
Harry D. Barnes
Candidate for Circuit Court Judge

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Belote,

You did it again! Thanks so much for printing the “photo ops” taken at the Colora Civic Association’s April Big Band Dance in your July/August issue of Cecil Soil Magazine (and to Maggie Creshkoff for taking them.)

For the most part, those pictured are some of our regular attendees. The gentleman whose picture appears in the lower left hand corner is Tom Ford, the only original member of the “Rhythm Doctors” band formed in 1942.
Thanks again, keep printing.

Sincerely,
Hazel Jenkins

Dear Sierra Bouchelle,

Thank you for submitting the article of my family winning the 4-H Family of the Year Award in the May/June issue of Cecil Soil. All the things you said about my family in the article were so nice and we appreciate all the photos and time and effort you took to write and share this with other readers. You captured my son, my husband, Wayne and me with ease. And I am so thankful by what you wrote about my family in this article that we will cherish it forever. We did so much in 4-H I never really thought about us getting an award as 4-H Family of the Year. We just do for others always, and with this award we were all very surprised and shocked because we weren’t expecting such a big honor.

Thanks again for writing the story about us in Cecil Soil Magazine.

Sincerely,
Debbie Carlisle

We have known Harry and Catherine Barnes for a long time; we met through the Rising Sun Lions Club and have been great friends ever since.

They are both humble, compassionate and just down-to-earth honest people. We have enjoyed campaigning for Harry and encouraging voters to preserve and defend their constitutional rights by casting their ballots for the candidate of their choice. We believe he will do a great job as an “elected” Cecil County Judge.

Harry has many accomplishments among them being a man of honor who demonstrates enduring integrity and leadership. It is our belief that the people of Cecil County want to choose their Governmental Officials and not have an official that is appointed by our Governor. Harry stands for what the United States of America was founded on: good honest law and justice. We need that in all levels of our government today— local, state and federal.

Adams fishDear Ed,

My son T.J. Adams caught a lunker large mouth bass from the farm pond where we live in Conowingo. He caught and released it on Sunday, July 11th. We estimated it to weigh between 4-5 pounds and be about 24-26 inches long. I’ve attached a picture of his dad, Tim Adams, and his sister, Becky Adams, with T.J. and the fish.

Thank you,
Tanya M. Adams

Dear Mr. Belote,

I enjoyed the letter from Reg Martin in your July/August CSM telling about his father and his love for Rising Sun.

I grew up on a farm outside of Rising Sun about two miles from Spready Oak. I’m sure he remembers two of my brothers, Ray and Elwood Monger; he used to ride home from town with them.

His friend Joe Cooney was my husband and the father of my two children. He often talked about riding to Tome in Vin’s “old car” and the fun they had. Joe died at age 58, November 1971.

At age 90 I moved to Allentown, Penn. to be near my daughter and her family. I have an apartment in a retirement community and am very happy to be here.
I would like to hear from Reg or Vincent.

Sincerely,
Louise Jenkins
Allentown, Pennsylvania
